The Moran Family Legacy
Listening to his mother and sister talk about their alma mater, Saint Xavier College, Harry Moran heard firsthand how a Saint Xavier education can transform a person's life.
Frances Ryan Moran, Harry's mother, the Class of 1911 valedictorian, devoted her life to her husband, children, and the students with disabilities she taught. Harry's sister, Margaret '49, worked as a Chicago Public School teacher for 40 years. In 1990, she received the Sister Dorothy Marie Peschon '19 Award, as an alumna who embodies the values of the Sisters of Mercy in educating students.
It was Margaret's thoughtfulness and generosity in leaving SXU in her estate plan that inspired Harry to endow a scholarship to SXU for education majors in the name of his mom and sister, The Frances Ryan Moran & Margaret Frances Moran Memorial Endowment Scholarship.
Harry realizes the importance of higher education. "The most wonderful gift you can give to a child is education. It's immeasurable in value. Higher education is a lasting value that you can give to children, especially if they have the ability, the skills, and the desire to pursue it."
Because of the kindness of this brother and sister team, the students of SXU will continue to benefit from their generosity for years to come. Thank you, Margaret and Harry, for leaving a wonderful legacy to the University!
