Meet a Student: Rawan Makhlouf '19
Saint Xavier University senior Rawan Makhlouf knows that she made the right decision coming to SXU; "SXU was the first college that reached out to me during my junior year in high school. From that point on, I felt that SXU wanted me and believed that I could complete a degree."
Through the support of faculty and undergraduate research opportunities, Rawan's confidence and passion for laboratory work as a chemistry major has grown. "After my first year, the classes were so challenging that I changed majors to Accounting. I knew that was a mistake, though. Chemistry is much more exciting. And the Chemistry faculty helped me see that I could do it." Next semester, Rawan will work with Professor Julia Wiester on a research project in nuclear chemistry.
Along the way, Rawan has relied on institutional scholarship support to help her achieve her goals. "Without my SXU scholarship, I would not be here," says Rawan. Scholarship support, engaged faculty, and high-impact laboratory experiences have given this senior the edge.
Now, in her final year at SXU, Rawan knows she is ready for a career in a forensics laboratory. "SXU prepares chemistry students to write reports and papers and perform formal experiments. These are valuable techniques that will make me ready for a career in a lab."
